Technology Philosophy
Technology in the classroom is of vital importance. It is my desire to ensure all students have the ability to use and understand as many aspects of technology they can. With the technological climate in the world it is up to me as an educator to help my future students succeed.
To succeed in technology students need to feel comfortable and confident in their abilities. This is only possible if they are allowed to use computers, software, cameras, smart boards, etc… any chance they can. The more they use them, the better off they will be.
This will be accomplished in my classroom in a multitude of ways. Listed here are a few of the ways in which the students will be allowed to explore technology. First off, starting each day each student will be responsible for signing themselves in and saying if they are having a hot or cold lunch. We will have a camera user/documenter that changes each week; the documentation is completed on a word processor program such as Microsoft Word. There is a pro-scope (digital microscope) that will be used to study many small things to encourage scientific inquiry. Students will also create slide show presentations with a voice put over it. If possible the students will create website using HTML and learn to use digital cameras to create stop motion movies.
If students are allowed to use different types of technology from an early age it will be possible to incorporate them in later grades without fear of all students being off task. This will be done by scaffolding/modeling what it means to use a computer and/or the internet.
